In the project idea proposed in issue The Humane Tech Privacy Awareness Project I described 3 audiences, the third one being businesses.

Though that is okay, I think a separate project is required that focuses primarily on the workplace, both in the corporate realm, but also in government, education, science and other institutions. There needs to be a project that deals with the issue described on the forum in this topic:

The rationale of using 'free' cloud-based services for your professional work?

Specifically addressing questions relating to the use of Tech Giant (Google/Amazon/Apple, etc.) products and services, where the company or institution is not the customer, but the product (similar to how this applies to individuals).

Some question to investigate:

  • Would you allow a competitor the same level of access to information that you provide Tech Giant?

  • Would you still provide Tech Giant this information if they start to be a competitor in you field?

  • Would the Tech Giant be capable of using your information indirectly to compete against you?

  • Would the Tech Giant be capable to provide 3rd-parties (indirect) insight into your internal work processes?

  • Can I trust a business partner that processes/stores all my information in the cloud of a Tech Giant?

  • Is it ethical that by requiring your employees to use these services you expose them to personal data-harvesting as well?

  • Do you even know the answer to any of the above questions?

These questions need to be addressed on a separate website targeted at owners and decision makers, to raise awareness and know the exact implications of using these products and services, so that informed decisions can be made.

(An acronym for the project could be propriety and available at propriety.humanetech.com)
