This repository contains the code to reproduce the data and figures of http://arxiv.org/abs/2102.00078 submitted to the Astrophysical Journal.

Figures and results

Figure 2 (and 6)

These were produced using the notebook CE_crossing_LISA_band.ipynb and relies partially on the core masses from BSE stored in core_masses.txt.

LISA SNR calculation and figure 3

The calculation and the plot in figure 3 are done in SNR_grid.ipynb This uses fdot_and_f_m1_0.5_m2_0.3_T90000.txt (see below) for the solid orange line.

Gas drag calculation

The estimate for the gas drag inspiral neglecting the feedback of the envelope is done in gas-drag.ipynb. The results are logged in fdot_and_f_m1_0.5_m2_0.3.txt.

Rapid population synthesis: COSMIC and figure 4

The input files to reproduce our rapid population synthesis are in COSMIC_popsynth/COSMIC_ini_files. These were used with python 3.7.6 and COSMIC version 3.2.0. The numerical output of our COSMIC runs are available on zenodo.

The folder COSMIC_popsynth contains also notebooks that have been used to analyze the data and libraries of functions these use.

The output data and these scripts were used to produce figure 4 (see CE_rate_init.ipynb).

Stealth bias and figure 5

The calculations and the plots in figure 5 are done in Stealth_bias/M-D.ipynb

Extras

Dependencies

We build the list of dependencies using poetry. See poetry.lock and pyproject.toml for version numbers of all the python packages used.

MESA files

These were used to run some simple red-supergiant models to build up intuition on the core evolution in terms of radius and mass. The data were not used directly in the paper. See inside that folder for more info.
